The Flour Packet

A collection of things has its beginning and this collection of flour packets began with my weekly baking of bread. My retention of empty flour packets seems to have started in about 2005 although I had been baking bread periodically since about 1980.
 
Nearly 160 packet designs are displayed below. Only the main artwork of each packet is shown. Most packets also incorporate bread-making recipes and other useful information. The packets were purchased (with flour inside) from grocery shops and usually held between 0.5 kilograms and 3 kilograms. Very much larger flour bags, holding from 5Kg to 50Kg, are also available.
 
All the flours represented by the images have been used successfully in my kitchen. The resulting loaves are fragrant, delicious to chew and can last up to about five days in a polythene bag in the refrigerator without becoming stale. Each week I usually make two loaves; one for Friday night, the other for a dear friend. My oven is a Kubex™ Camping Oven which is placed on my gas-fired hob. It holds two baking tins, each of about 450gm capacity.

Brixton Windmill Blenheim Gardens, London SW2 This windmill, built in 1816 and currently undergoing extensive restoration, may in the not too distant future (2016 has been suggested) resume flour milling after being dormant since 1935.
