Two strands pinched together and twisted. Alternatively, a single double-length strand may be folded in half and twisted.
Then, pinched to complete. These are not braids since by untwisting they form a simple loop.
Koeksusters, a South African pastry delicacy, are made from two twisted strands or three plaited strands of dough. Their twisted form resembles the 2-twist (right). They are made from sweet dough which is twisted or plaited and then boiled in a mixture of sugar syrup (or honey) and cinnamon
until crisp on the outside.

Starting from zero, if a twist is repeated six times and the ends are joined, strand A to A and strand B to B, then the resulting loop may be re-shaped into a topologically identical Magen David.
A correctly formed Magen David, at least according to the Kabbalah, is composed of two non-intertwined equilateral triangles.
The numbers on the Magen David (above) correspond to the numbers in the 2-twist diagram (right).
