The following list of book-finder services on the Internet is the result of my own need to obtain details of books, mostly older, out-of-print, hard-to-locate volumes, which deal with specialised subjects.

Many of the listed services offer to find a book at the lowest possible price. They are listed because they provide an indexing service and not because of the possibility of obtaining a recently published 'best-seller' at the lowest ticket price worldwide.

As is the case with many search engines, each book finder searches a different index and you should therefore try several if the first set of results is inconclusive.

Here in the United Kingdom, the term 'remaindered book' means a copy of a book which was published at some time earlier but was never sold at retail, i.e. it remained unsold in the warehouse or stockroom or on the shelf. In American English, the terms 'blow-out book' and 'close-out book' appear to have a similar meaning. 'Second-hand' means a book which has been sold and owned, probably read, probably has slight scuff marks. In AE 'used' is equivalent.
